Pierre Boulez’s Répons for large chamber orchestra, six percussion soloists, and live electronics was conceived at IRCAM in Paris and premiered in 1981 in Donaueschingen. The composer had hoped to hear it performed in the new flexible concert hall in Berlin that bears his name. Almost two years after his death, conductor François-Xavier Roth and the Boulez Ensemble now fulfill that wish presenting this modern masterpiece, which is based on the spatial dramaturgy of “responses” between instrument groups.
