COMPOSERS' CLUB
Philippe Manoury
Pierre Boulez Saal - Mozart Auditorium
With the start of the new season, the Barenboim-Said Akademie launches a new edition of its Composers’ Club. In this series of seminars and conversations, some of today’s leading composers are invited to present their work. Each installment consists of a preparatory seminar for Akademie students, which is focused on a closer look at scores and aspects of the music, and a live talk with the composer that is open to the public.
On October 28, Stephan Winkler, Professor of Composition and Theory, welcomes French composer Philippe Manoury. Two of his works will be heard the following evening in a concert with the Boulez Ensemble led by François-Xavier Roth.
Considered a pioneer of music with live electronics, Philippe Manoury was born in 1952 and began his education at the Paris Conservatoire. He has been closely associated with IRCAM in Paris, which was founded by Pierre Boulez, since the early 1980s, where together with Miller Puckette he developed the programming language known today as Max/MSP. In addition to music with live electronics, his work catalogue also includes four string quartets, large-scale orchestral compositions, and different kinds of music theater works. His Das wohlpräparierte Klavier for piano and live electronics was premiered by Daniel Barenboim at the Pierre Boulez Saal in 2021.
Presented in English. Admission is free, registration is required.
