GIDON KREMER & CLARA-JUMI KANG
PROKOFJEW, YSAŸE, WEINBERG, NONO
Pierre Boulez Saal
Veteran violinist Gidon Kremer is joined by rising star Clara-Jumi Kang for a duo recital of 20th- and 21st-century music, ranging from the late-romantic virtuosity of Eugène Ysaÿe to Nono’s "Hay que caminar" soñando (his last completed work, written for Kremer in 1989) and the Requiem for Ukraine of contemporary Georgian composer Igor Loboda. The program also includes Prokofiev’s 1932 sonata for two violins and a solo sonata by Polish-Russian composer Mieczysław Weinberg (1919–1996), whose music has been rediscovered in recent years following the posthumous premiere of his opera The Passenger in 2010.
One of the world’s leading violinists for more than 40 years, Gidon Kremer has also brought new impulses to international concert halls with Kremerata Baltica, a chamber orchestra he founded in 1997. Clara-Jumi Kang, born in Germany to Korean parents, made her professional debut at age five and went on to study at New York’s Juilliard School and the Korean National University of Arts. She has performed throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States and released her debut album in 2011.
