“Your son is the greatest composer known to me by person and repute; he has taste and what is more the greatest skill in composition,” Joseph Haydn told Leopold Mozart early in 1785 after hearing Wolfgang’s latest string quartets in a privat performance. Mozart dedicated these works, known today as the “Haydn” Quartets, to the “father” of the string quartet genre. The Hagen Quartett presents the entire set of six spread over two evenings.
