Few singers have undertaken a more thorough exploration of Schubert’s Winterreise than English tenor Ian Bostridge: with countless performances and multiple recordings to his credit, he also released an acclaimed monograph on the song cycle in 2015. For his first solo recital at the Pierre Boulez Saal, he is joined by Sir Antonio Pappano to perform Schubert’s “spine-chilling songs”—as the composer himself once described them.
