A new exhibition at Berlin’s Museum für Islamische Kunst explores the history of culture and art in Iran and the country’s prominent role as a hub and instigator of intercultural exchange across five millennia. On view at the James-Simon-Galerie, just a few minutes’ walk from the Pierre Boulez Saal, from December 2021, the exhibition will be complemented by a series of concerts over the course of the 2021–22 season, with musicians from Iran and neighboring countries presenting contemporary musical perspectives as a counterpoint to the historical artifacts on display. Coinciding with the opening of the exhibition, the series launches with a performance by composer Sohrab Pournazeri and Tehran-born singer Sahar Boroujerdi, one of the most fascinating voices of classical Persian song, and their ensemble.
