Violin Arrangements of Works by Paganini, Albenìz, de Falla, Schumann, Weber, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Dvorak

Towards the end of his life, Fritz Kreisler, one of the last violin virtuoso-composers of the 20th century, had amassed an impressive collection of violins—including ten by Stradivari alone. One of these is played today by Yamen Saadi, a graduate of the Barenboim-Said Akademie and concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera since last season. More than reason enough to explore Kreisler’s oeuvre more thoroughly: together with pianist Julien Quentin, Saadi performs rarely heard original works by the great violinist, as well as Eugène Ysaÿe’s Fourth Sonata, which is dedicated to Kreisler, and a selection of his numerous arrangements of works by other composers.
