Das wohlpräparierte Klavier for Piano and Live Electronics
Commissioned by the Daniel Barenboim Stiftung

Over the last 50 years, composers time and again have opened up new musical worlds by creating dialogues between a solo instrument and live electronics or tape. Three widely different works are heard in this program, which brings together a trio of extraordinary musicians at the Pierre Boulez Saal. Michael Barenboim performs Boulez’s Anthèmes 2, while Jörg Widmann engages in a musical dialogue with himself in Dialogue de l’ombre double. Daniel Barenboim revisits Philippe Manoury’s Das wohlpräparierte Klavier, which he premiered at the Pierre Boulez Saal in September 2021.

Daniel Barenboim had to cancel his appearance in this concert due to a flu infection. We would like to thank Michael Wendeberg for stepping in at short notice to perform Philippe Manoury’s Das wohlpräparierte Klavier. As the former pianist of the Ensemble intercontemporain and professor for piano and performance practice at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, he is closely associated both with this institution and the contemporary repertoire.
