Pierrot lunaire Op. 21

Arnold Schoenberg’s 1912 masterpiece Pierrot lunaire is a defining landmark of modernism. Daniel Barenboim leads the Boulez Ensemble, with soprano Donatienne Michel-Dansac as the vocal soloist. The program also includes Hanns Eisler’s Vierzehn Arten, den Regen zu beschreiben—based on a 1929 film score and written for the same instruments as Schoenberg’s work, minus the voice—and Franz Schubert’s variations on a song from his own cycle Die schöne Müllerin, with Maestro Barenboim at the piano.
