Hanging Gardens (Janain mualaqa)
2023 Arabic Music Days
Documentary / Film 0In 2010s Baghdad, 12-year-old As’ad and his older brother Taha struggle to make ends meet as garbage collectors in the “Hanging Gardens,” as the city’s overflowing dumps are called. When As’ad finds an American sex doll there and brings it home, the taboo object sets in motion a wondrous coming-of-age story under the real yet unreal conditions of present-day Iraq.
Ahmed Yassin Al Daradji’s film premiered at the 2022 Venice Biennale and is available to all visitors of the Arabic Music Days for two weeks as an on-demand stream on Pierre Boulez Saal Online. Ticket holders will receive information on how to access the free stream by email.
